When making a claim we will require proof of ownership and value of any items you wish to claim for. It is therefore very important to have a recent purchase receipt or valuation.
It is important that any valuations you obtain are from independent professionals with relevant expertise. Depending on the item you can get a valuation from a jeweller, auctioneer, rare coin dealer, rare stamp dealer or other specialist valuer.
It is important that you are comfortable with the valuer you choose, particularly if this means leaving your valuables with them. Costs and services vary so it is worth checking before you take your items out of your safe deposit box. A few things worth checking are:
- Check their credentials, you should not be afraid to ask lots of questions up front, like:
- Are they a member of a trade body?
- How long have they been established?
- What qualifications do they have to value your specific item?
- Can they give you a valuation at the time of an appointment or do you have to leave the item with them?
- If you have to leave the item it is important that they are an established, professional business who provide you with proper documentation and that they are insured while the item is in their possession.
- Some valuers will come to your home to carry out a valuation and some may also be willing to meet you at your security centre so that you do not have to risk taking your valuables outside.
- How much do they charge?
- Some valuers will charge you a fixed fee which you should agree up front. Others will charge a percentage of the item's value or a combination of the two.
- It is very important to check up front.
- What documentation do they provide?
- Ask to see an example of the valuation documentation. This should include a description of the item and its condition, the quality of the materials and their weight where appropriate.

Prestige Valuations are an independent firm and not affiliated with Noble Security Box, we do not receive any payment from them if you decide to use them. You must satisfy yourself that they are right for you but we can confirm that we accept their valuations.
You are free to use any valuer of your choice as long as they are independent and qualified in valuing each item.
